People with different abilities

Access to and use of the Library are guaranteed for the disabled by eliminating the architectural barriers. The reading rooms are all accessible to people differently disabilities. Toilets are available on the ground and second floor, equipped and accessible to persons with physical disabilities

Access to the Library

The access to the Library is open to anyone over the age of 18 in possession of a valid identity document. On the first visit there is registration process and you will receive an access photo-card for the Library.
A locker is available to users where bags and property must deposited. If you wish to bring items into the Library you must ask for specific authorization.
It is permitted to bring personal computers into the Library.
If necessary, during consultation of documents held by the Library, users can bring books or photocopies of their own property but only with specific authorization.

Reading rooms

The Library has six consultation rooms available to the public, with a total of 40 seats. Each consultation room is equipped with sockets for laptops, and 4 library computers that provide access to the institute's electronic resources and Digital Databases.
The reading rooms have open shelves with books and periodicals that can be consulted directly by the readers without requesting an online consultation.
The volumes displayed are mainly texts of general history and national stories, encyclopaedias, dictionaries and vocabularies, bibliographic repertoires, biographical dictionaries, atlases, general works related to the study of history that come from other disciplines (such as the social sciences, law, literature, art and philosophy), magazines and periodicals which come with their respective catalogues and indices.

Newspaper room

This is situated on the ground floor in the courtyard room. It contains about 300 Italian and foreign newspapers of the 20th century that can be consulted on paper, microfilm and CD-rom. There are two workstations from which users can browse the Internet for searches. The Acts of the Italian Parliament (1848 – 1987) are also available for consultation.

Borrowing services

The maximum number of requests that can be borrowed is two, up to a maximum of four books. Loans are for fifteen days but may be extended for a week, as long as there are no other reservation requests. It is forbidden to give other people any volumes that you have taken out on loan.

Reproductions

With specific authorization, it is possible to reproduce the bibliographic and documentary material for study or commercial purposes. Reproduction can only be made in digital format.

Bibliographic information

The bibliographic information service is available during the Library opening hours, to provide assistance and guidance in research and consultation of printed and online catalogues. Users have also access to computer terminals for searches on local and remote bibliographic databases.
For offsite users a service is available to provide information on localization of documents, completions of bibliographic citations, short bibliographic suggestions, indications on institutes specialized in historical research, clarifications on catalogue query procedures.
Requests can be made by mail, fax or telephone.
